Disclosures and Policies

I'm a relative newbie when it comes to blogging and I'm learning as I go along.  (ETA in February, 2021:  I still consider myself a novice in blogging...there's so much that I don't know.)

Disclosure Notices

The blog was originally created so that I could post reviews for books that I received through NetGalley, but I have started posting reviews for other books that have caught my attention from other sources.  If I receive a book through an organization such as NetGalley, publisher, or an author, I will post a disclosure notice at the end of the review.  I am not receiving compensation for the reviews that I post, except, occasionally, the book that I receive for reviewing.

Book Review Policy

I'm interested in reading Christian fiction, but will read the occasional Christian non-fiction book.  I'm not interested in reading erotica and would probably skip over those portions if it appears in the text or I may decline to read the book.

Knitting books also interest me.  I would describe myself as an intermediate knitter.

I will often also post a review on Goodreads.com.

At present, I'm not keen on using a rating system, although, once upon a time, I used to work as a public school teacher.  I've watched students pour a lot of time and sweat into their work, so I can appreciate the time and effort it takes to write and compose something.  I ascribe to a model of "sandwich" criticism.  In other words, if I make critical remarks about something, I will try to balance them with strengths that I find.  With fiction, I like to consider how the content of the work fits or contrasts with my worldview.

Although I may receive a copy of a book to review from a publisher or author, the opinions stated in my reviews are mine alone, and are not influenced by the source that I have received it from.  For examples, please see here, here, and here.

If you catch a grammatical error or spelling mistake, let me know!  I've always found that to be a fun exercise when interacting with my students in the past.

As of February 3rd, 2021, I'm backlogged for approximately 43 books.  I hope to post the reviews I promised as soon as I can.  Thanks for your patience!

Use of Blog Content

Please obtain consent from me before using material that I have written in this blog, unless, of course, you represent the organization that originally gave me the book.  In this case, I have probably already submitted a review directly to you.  If you use my material, please also include a link/mention back to my blog.  I can be reached through the information provided on the "Contact Me" page.
